Birds of North America series represents when I was two years old, I was diagnosed with autism by three different specialists. I could not speak till I was four years old, the only way I was able to communicate was PECS symbol which you might know as the emoji on iPhone and iPad. ‘ What I want to show you today is my painting “Birds of North America” My Birds of North America series has 66 births, this represents the fact that 1 out of every 66 births in Canada will be born within the autism spectrum. Please keep in mind when I was born in 1996 that it was only 1 out of every 1000 were born with autism. Even though autism is the highest rising affliction of a neurological disorder, it’s one of the least funded. These birds represent pecs symbol I used for my speech therapy to describe my words. Just like autism, each bird is different, like a snowflake each bird may seem similar, however, each bird looks and acts differently.
